Our Ethics

Palm oil (To us or not to use that is the question?)

Has been used in Africa within village life, for cooking, washing and hair care for centuries until it became as mass commodity in the early 19th century by the British.

So, for us we refrain from using palm oil where tropical rainforests are rapidly disappearing at an alarming rate. Skin Ritual looks towards local communities where palm oil is sustainable where local suppliers set their prices stamping out unfair trade and exploitation.

When Skin Ritual decides to use this wonderful ingredient, it is only purchased from an ethical and reliable source although not use in all our soap products we have chosen palm oil for a few.

Aside from the palm all controversy we also avoid using artificial pigments. Although aesthetically pleasing, we feel these types of colorants are best suited for the potter’s palate. Most soap makers swear by them, but we prefer to leave them out. Instead, our soaps are coloured by herbs we forage and pick from our garden or local woodlands, we are incredibly grateful for earths offering to colour our bars naturally and safely.
